My Fellow Middletown Lions:

As my term as your President comes to a close, I wish to thank you for all the support that you so graciously gave me. Serving as your President often was demanding and required constant attention to details, but it also was one of the best and most joyful experiences in my life. I owe much of our success to my Secretary, Joann Stanfield, Vice Presidents Phyl Thompson and Tom Nyswaner, Treasurer Frank Curtis, and most importantly my wife, Lion Nancy. Through their efforts, with the assistance of the rest of the Board and Club Members, we were able to have a very successful year, which I will summarize on the night we install new officers.

When I took office one year ago, I had only a few simple requests: that you serve the community, have fun doing it, and that you always treat every other Lion with respect. I believe that we did all these things, and they contributed to the success of our Club. Our Club has continued to grow, but even more importantly participation at all events has been marvelous. Attendance at Board Meetings has been essentially 100%, and attendance of regular “full” members at General Meetings has been running at 80% or higher.

My goal was to lead the Club in a common direction which helped fulfill the needs of our Community, but also the individual needs of our Members. I put considerable thought into how meetings should be conducted. Meetings were conducted in a manner in which I felt would promote maximum participation from all Club members, and hence a feeling of meaningful participation. In doing so, I came to the realization that we have a remarkably talented group of dedicated individuals who were able to pool their creativity and energy to accomplish our common goals.

The Middletown Lions Club over the decades has gained the deep respect of our community. I am very proud to belong to an organization that is recognized as such an important part of our community. I hope that you will support the new officers and Board in every possible way, and that our 80th year will be the greatest ever. In the future, I will continue to serve the Club where needed.

Again, I thank you for allowing me to serve as your President.

Yours in Lionism,

Mo Bonde, President
Middletown Lions Club, 2009/2010
