Shortly before joining the Lions Club, Bob lost his wife Ann to cancer. She spent the last few days of her life in the Kline Hospice House. When he learned that some members of the Middletown Valley Community had banded together hoping to build a hospice house in the valley, Bob stepped in. The grass-roots effort had no funds, no land, and no hope of building a house anytime in the near future. He, and his sons, offered the land to build the house. With this generous gift, Bob’s dream to have “Ann’s Hospice Home” a reality will happen sometime in the near future. This gift will allow families like his a chance to spend time with their terminally ill loved one in a home setting, in the local community instead of having to travel many miles away. This gift will give many families peace of mind as they go through loosing a loved-one.
In giving this award, District 22W Governor Robert Disinger, stated that he chose as his motto “Always doing the right thing – Leading through service.” He stated that Bob exemplifies this motto and is a true example of what a Lion aspires to achieve. He was recommended by his club to receive the Governor’s Commendation Medal. Middletown Lions Club is honored to have members like Bob Fry.
